Megaupload claims it is beyond the reach of US criminal law

Megaupload, a corporation whose file-sharing business was effectively destroyed by a January indictment, has asked a Virginia judge to dismiss the case against it. It argues that because it is not based in the United States and has no offices there, it is not subject to US criminal law.

As ACTA support falters, treaty referred to European court

The prospects for quick European approval of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement dimmed Wednesday as the European Commission, the EU’s executive branch, announced plans to seek an opinion from the European Court of Justice about ACTA’s constitutionality.

Obama administration joins the ranks of SOPA skeptics

The Obama administration has joined the ranks of skeptics of the Stop Online Piracy Act. In an online statement released Saturday, three senior White House officials wrote that the administration “will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.”
